On a custom electric bike, almost everything you see and touch can be personalised: colours, finishes, cockpit, saddle, wheels, tyres and equipment. What stays as designed is the electric system itself, the motor, the battery and the 25 km/h assistance limit, because it is certified as a whole and defines the bike's legal category in Europe.
This guide explains what a custom e-bike really is, what you can change, what you should leave alone, and how to choose the right base before you personalise it.
What is a custom electric bike?
A custom electric bike is an e-bike whose finish and components are chosen for one rider, starting from a frame and an electric system designed to work together. It is not a different category of bike: it is a production e-bike, personalised in its details and set up for the way you ride.
The difference with an off-the-shelf e-bike lies in the choices made before handover. Colour, contact points, tyres and equipment are decided with the rider, and the bike is adjusted to their position rather than delivered in a standard setup. Stajvelo, a premium bike brand based in Monaco, offers its custom electric bikes on this principle.
What you can personalise on a custom e-bike
The parts you can personalise on a custom e-bike are the ones that shape how it looks, how it fits and how it rides. Each choice also has a practical consequence, so it helps to decide them with your riding in mind.
- Colours and finishesFrame colour, accents, contrasts, lettering and details. The most visible part of a custom project.
- CockpitHandlebar shape and width, stem length, grips or bar tape. It defines your position and your control of the bike.
- SaddleShape and padding chosen for your distances and posture, rather than a default model.
- Wheels and tyresTyre width and tread change comfort, grip and rolling speed more than almost any other component.
- DrivetrainDepending on the model, a different groupset or gearing, within what the frame and motor accept.
- EquipmentMudguards, rack, lights and accessories for daily use, or a cleaner setup for sport riding.
Fit comes before finish
A custom e-bike is only as good as its fit. The right frame size, stem, handlebar width and saddle position matter more on an electric bike, because assistance makes longer rides easy and any discomfort shows over the distance. At Stajvelo, every e-bike is offered in standard sizes and refined with the contact points; a made-to-measure frame is reserved for the Beau Rivage, our non-electric road bike.
What should stay as designed: motor, battery and the 25 km/h limit
On a custom e-bike, the motor, the battery and the assistance settings should stay as the manufacturer designed them. In the European Union, an electric bike that can be ridden like a bicycle has a motor of up to 250 W that assists only while you pedal and stops assisting at 25 km/h.
- Speed limitRaising the assistance limit, or adding a module to bypass it, takes the bike out of the bicycle category. It can then require type approval, registration and specific insurance.
- BatteryUse the battery designed for the system. Batteries and chargers are matched to the motor and electronics; third-party units can create safety and warranty issues.
- Motor and electronicsFirmware, display and sensors work as one system. Changes are best handled by the brand or its workshop.
You can ride faster than 25 km/h under your own power. The assistance simply stops beyond that speed.
Custom e-bike or conversion kit?
A conversion kit adds a motor and a battery to an existing bicycle; a custom e-bike is designed as an electric bike from the frame up. The difference shows in integration, balance and safety.
On a bike designed to be electric, the battery is housed in the frame, cables are routed internally, and the frame, fork and brakes are sized for the extra weight and speed. A converted bike keeps a frame that was not designed for these loads, and the electric parts usually remain visible. For a premium, durable result, starting from a purpose-built e-bike is the more coherent choice.
How to choose the base for your custom e-bike
The base model sets the character of a custom e-bike, so it is the first decision to make. Start with where you will ride, then personalise the bike that fits that use. All Stajvelo e-bikes share the same Polini EP3+ Evo motor with 75 Nm of torque and a 500 Wh battery.

- Polini EP3+ Evo motor, 75 Nm
- 500 Wh battery
- City, Sport and Gravel versions
Does customisation change the weight and range of an e-bike?
Customisation changes the weight and range of an e-bike only at the margin, because the motor and battery stay the same. What you change mostly affects comfort and rolling speed.
- TyresWider tyres add comfort and grip on rough surfaces; narrower, faster tyres roll more easily on smooth roads.
- EquipmentMudguards, rack and lights add a little weight but make the bike usable every day, in every weather.
- RidingAssistance level, terrain, temperature and rider weight affect range far more than finishes or contact points.
How a custom e-bike project works at Stajvelo
A Stajvelo custom e-bike usually starts from a bike in stock, which is personalised, assembled and adjusted in our atelier in Fontvieille, Monaco. You choose the model and the size, define the finish and components with our team, and the bike is set up for you before handover.
Each step, from the first conversation to delivery, is described in our guide on how a Stajvelo custom bike project works. Once on the road, your e-bike is serviced by the same team at our bike workshop in Monaco.

Frequently asked questions
Can you customise an e-bike?
Yes. On a custom e-bike you can personalise colours, finishes, cockpit, saddle, wheels, tyres and equipment. The motor, battery and assistance settings should stay as designed by the manufacturer.
Is it legal to remove the 25 km/h limit on an e-bike?
In the European Union, an e-bike that assists beyond 25 km/h is no longer treated as a bicycle. It may then require type approval, registration and specific insurance, so the limit should not be removed on a bike used as a bicycle.
Which Stajvelo e-bikes can be customised?
Every Stajvelo e-bike, the Grima, the Nomades in City, Sport and Gravel versions, and the Mirabeau, can be personalised in colours and components, then assembled and adjusted in our Monaco atelier.
Is a custom e-bike made to order?
Not at Stajvelo. Custom e-bikes usually start from a bike in stock, which is then personalised, assembled and adjusted in our atelier in Fontvieille, Monaco. Lead times are confirmed when the project is validated.
Can I test a custom e-bike before ordering?
Yes. A complimentary test ride of about 30 minutes is available at our Monaco showroom, which is the best way to compare models, sizes and assistance before personalising your bike.
